Burlington High School believes that a dynamic program of student activities is vital to the educational development of the student. Burlington High School Athletic Program should provide a variety of experiences to enhance the development of positive student habits and attitudes that will prepare them for adult life in a democratic society.
Athletics should function as an integral part of the total curriculum. It should offer opportunities to serve the school and community, to assist in the development of positive relationships and good will, to promote self-realization, all-around growth and good citizenship qualities.
Athletics plays an important part in the life of Burlington High School. Young people learn a great deal from participation in interscholastic athletics. Lessons in sportsmanship, teamwork, competition and how to win and lose gracefully are integral parts of our athletic program.
Athletic competition also plays an important part in helping students develop a healthy self-concept as well as a healthy body. Athletic competition also improves school spirit and helps students develop pride in their school.

The Burlington STEAM program mission is to build the future by inspiring, engaging, and empowering students to contribute, collaborate, and innovate in order to persevere through challenges and thrive in a global society.
The STEAM program at Burlington seeks to provide an enriching learning environment where students are immersed in an inquiry-based, authentic STEAM curriculum that challenges their 21st-century critical thinking and problem-solving skills. We provide each student of the STEAM program with interdisciplinary opportunities in science, technology, engineering, the arts, and mathematics.
The integration of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) for grades 1-5 at Burlington shall focus on instruction that drives innovation. At Burlington, we believe that it is innovation that is the difference between simply using technology and the arts, and taking it beyond classroom instruction or design to bring ideas to life. This not only encourages our students to think more abstractly about a challenge or inquiry, we believe it also fosters student engagement as the students see the relevance of what they are being taught and its broader applications in the world around them. Through the STEAM approach to learning, our students are taught the value of taking thoughtful risks, how to engage in hands-on learning, and the importance of persistence in problem-solving. The students do this by embracing collaboration, and by working through the creative process.
Student Council
Christa Fraire
cfraire@burlingtonschool.com
Burlington Student Council supports the educational mission of the school through sponsoring activities and events that contribute to positive climates and foster academic and social growth. The Student Council works to open doors for students to experience and practice democratic principles and learn the value of participatory citizenship.
Student participation in school and community activities is an essential part of building a positive school climate, and student councils have the capacity to engage diverse student populations in their projects, activities, and events.
Student council serves as a representative body that advocates for the student body's interests and concerns. It provides a platform for students to voice their opinions, collaborate with school administration, and initiate positive changes within the school and local community. This encourages students to actively participate in shaping their educational experiences.
The adult sponsors will help guide students in learning and/or practicing a variety of leadership skills including but not limited to: organization, time management, budgeting, decision making, planning, preparing, problem solving, creativity, relationship building, and communication while encouraging creativity and initiative. Practicing these skills will broaden their knowledge and empower them to be catalysts for positive change in their school and community, both now and in the future.
“I can think of no better way for today’s high school students to grow in their understanding of our democratic processes than to participate in student government.” -President Lyndon B. Johnson
