Intern Program

By Brianna McGee

This year Burlington is offering an intern program where seniors have the

opportunity to learn different perspectives and positions through helping various staff

members. Students interning are Hailey McCullough, Emily Klippenstein, Haven

Stoner, Paige Stoner, and Zane Willard.

Haven and Paige intern with first grade teacher, Anne Graham. Haven stated she

enjoys the relaxing atmosphere with fun and entertaining things to do. Grading papers,

sorting homework and just talking and listening to the kids is pleasant for Haven. It has

helped her be more patient and more in tune with how others think. Paige loves

interacting with the little kids, helping them with reading and math. She feels it has

made her happier and more patient. It has actually helped her decide on a future career

of becoming a teacher.

Hailey and Emily intern for the librarian, Toni Jacquez. Hailey is fond of interning

because she likes organizing the books and chatting with students who come into the

library. Seeing how books relate to people and vice versa and what books Burlington

has to offer has been enjoyable. She would tell a younger student that it is a good

opportunity to find a new perspective. Emily enjoys interning because she gets a break

from class and enjoys organizing the books. It has also opened her up to reading

different books rather than sticking to one genre. She feels the experience can help a

student prepare for a job.

Zane also interns for Mrs. Jacquez, as well as Joe Granados, the maintenance

and transportation director. Zane enjoys interning because he likes helping out and has

learned that work can be good for your mental health. It feels good to be able to help

take away some of the stress of a workload off someone else.
